Who We Are,
What We Do
The Northland Foundation is a publicly supported, place-based foundation working in rural Northeast Minnesota and neighboring Native nations. The cornerstones of our work are to:
- Support the next generations to learn, achieve, and succeed.
- Help people of all ages and walks of life to achieve security, equity, and belonging.
- Strengthen economic opportunity that is accessible and equitable.
With the support of many partners working at the local, regional, state, and even national levels, we:
- Provide grants to nonprofits, governmental entities, and Native American individuals.
- Support small businesses with loans and consulting services.
- Deliver programs and special initiatives.
- Bring people together to share ideas and collaborate.
Area We Serve
Seven Northeast Minnesota counties: Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis, and all or parts of five Native nations: Bois Forte Band of Chippewa, Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe (District I), and Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe (District II).
The Northland Foundation humbly acknowledges that the region we serve rests on both ancestral and contemporary lands of Anishinaabe/Ojibwe and other Native people. Please read more about this land and its history.
